Hello All!

Welcome to the Dynamic Spine Calculator download page. This calculator was developed to aid the traditional archer in defining the appropriate arrow setup to match a given bow design. That formulas are derived primarily from modern deflex/reflex longbow and recurve designs based on actual shooting experience coupled with basic engineering principles. The goal here is to provide a “simple to use” tool that will provide a good starting point for which the archer can simply fine tune his bow to get excellent arrow flight. Hopefully this will save time, money, and the inevitable frustration that plaques the beginning archer when attempting to tune a new bow & arrow combination.

There is a complete set of numbered instructions that correlate to the needed inputs included in the spreadsheet. There are also some tips included to help the journey along.

Feel free to email me directly at: hkg3sg1@sbcglobal.net with any questions and I will be happy to help wherever possible. Constructive criticism and suggestions for continuous improvement are also always welcome!

Have fun and shoot straight,

-Stu Miller

Version 2 updated 2-14-2011

Summary of additions to release 12-25-2010

Downloads available below additions

1.There has been many new shafts added to the database including: Easton 1820 Genesis, Beman ICS Bowhunters, Gold Tip Hunters, Carbon Express Predator II, Easton A/C/C, Easton Axis FMJ, and Bullseye Premium Shafts

2.Our Warbow shooting friends asked to increase the allowed draw weight so the new limit is now 240# --- That should cover everyone!

3.Center cut selections now include +3/4” and +7/8” for those shooting wide handled selfbows

4.The fletching options have been enhanced to now include 'Bare Shaft' & 'Other' options. When selecting other you now have a cell to enter you own specific weight if desired. Also, 2 and 4 fletch options have been include for 3”, 4”, and 5” feather sizes.

5.Corrected an error to the PSE X-Weave shaft deflection numbers.

6.Added “Data Library” tab to store your own arrow and bow data as you use the DSC. This separate page can be selected by clicking on the “tab” at the bottom and is available for you to fill out and store data for your own reference.

7.You can now select specific bow makers and types! The benefit here is that the riser cut is pre-programmed and you now only need to enter the thickness of the strike plate you are using. The “generic” bow types at the top of the list are the same as before and should be used when your specific bow is not yet listed. When using a “generic” bow selection the strike plate position is entered as usual.

8.The graphical format has change so that only the values in the necessary fields are shown. As example, when selecting “Wood Shaft” from the arrow menu the three boxes directly below now become active and the values are visible. Vice-versa, if for example you select “2018” those same three fields are not needed and the values will not be visible.

9.The Instruction Sheet has been updated for the new features and also improved with clearer descriptions (hopefully!). As example, many were confused at how to correctly use the footing option so I have added a graphical diagram to help clarify the most common types and how they are intended to be inputted.

I hope that these change make the DSC more “user-friendly” and functional for you all. As always, if you have any questions or would like to suggest any further changes or additions feel free to contact me.

Thank you once again for being faithful in helping make this available to all. Have a great Christmas!

God bless,
-Stu

Dynamic Spine Calculator Instructions 12-25-2010 V2

Calculator Program

Released 1-8-2011

Hello Guys,
I think I have worked up a decent solution to the issue of getting your data easily into the library page. I added a 'header' line to the data library page that is automatically filled out with as much detail as possible of your setup that has been entered in the main calculator page. You can now simply copy and paste that data into any of the archived rows below the header....this info then stays put and becomes your historical data. The added bonus is that I have made it so the AMO deflection and spine as well as the shaft diameter now shows in the header line for any shaft selected. This was a previous request from someone who mentioned that fining this information on all the various shafts is sometimes difficult. Now you can see all the data at will!

The program has been tested using Mac excel on OS 10, and Open Office and Microsoft Excel on Windows 7. It works well in all.

You cannot do a line copy paste the first cell is protected. You may need to play with paste options.

1.Microsoft Excel Users You will need to click on Make Type “shift key” and click on Dynamic Spine Required. This will highlight all the cells in the row. Right click to bring up copy function and copy. Scroll back to the cell under Make Type on the line you want to copy the information to. Use Paste Options and select values.

2.Open Office Users You will need to click on Make Type “shift key” and click on Dynamic Spine Required. This will highlight all the cells in the row. Right click to bring up copy function and copy.
